 Abstract:  Charles H. Merrick was a resident of North Eaton, Ohio, who served first as principal musician and then as hospital steward in Company H, 8th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. The regiment saw much military action in Virginia. The collection consists of letters (1861-1864), mounted in 3 scrapbooks, written by Merrick, to his wife, giving a detailed account of Merrick's activities and those of his regiment; pocket diary (1862); medical notes, financial accounts, lists of office furniture, medicines, and books; personal correspondence (1885-1901) of Richard L. Merrick, of Cleveland, Ohio; and obituary notices for Dr. Myra K. Merrick (1824-1899).
